Prostate Cancer
The promotion of the charity is being led by Hitchin Tilehouse Rotary Club. It is in the RIBI Project Library and efforts are now turning to achieving a ‘preferred project’, status in the near future.

UPDATE - Jan 2006 The Rotary Club of Hitchin Tilehouse presented another cheque for £3,400 to The3 Prostate Cancer Charity in December. This was raised by Robin Hayhurst who ran in the Great North Run. Robin is a member of Hitchin Tikehurst Rotary Club and there is hopefully another £1,000 still be to collected! The Club is also proposing many events this year to raise awareness and funds for The PCC which include:-
And ............ Walk into the Dawn. This is a 10 km walk starting at 5 am (on a day to be confirmed in September) and the aim is to walk into the dawn of new hope (that raises the hairs on the back of your neck doesn't it). It was started last year by a lady in Brighton whose husband died of prostate cancer and she has asked for help from the Rotary Club of Hitchin Tilehouse to promote this at a District (and hopefully National) level. Funds will be raised solely for Prostate Cancer. These are very exciting projects and we are able to send information leaflets to Clubs within the District or Nationwide.

Lend-a-Hand scheme
The Stevenage Rotary Club are working to encourage Clubs to adopt their Lend-a-Hand scheme and have produced promotional literature. A similar scheme has been going successfully in Canada and this has been used as a ‘role model’. Together with the Club we are looking at ways of raising the profile in the future. It is hoped that Clubs will join together in areas to achieve the best results. The possibility of designating a District wide time for a co-ordinated effort would bring good publicity for Rotary.

Lend A Hand - Update Ware - Saturday, May 6th 2006 Rotarians from the Rotary Clubs of Amwell, Ware and Hertford Shires, along with Inner Wheel members, joined forces today to offer free help and assistance with various household and garden maintenance tasks to many elderly and disabled residents of Ware. From the central contact point at Farecla Ltd's Broadmead premises, more than 50 Rotary volunteers moved garden rubbish, repaired door locks and gates, put up washing lines, cleaned and tidied, trimmed hedges, re-laid garden paving, creosoted fences and generally worked hard to make a success of this truly worthwhile community service project. |

Environment |
Berkhamsted Bulbourne Club will be repeating their previously successful
awards scheme in 2006 and are aiming to increase the coverage both from the
point of view of entrants, sponsorship and assistance with organisation. All
Club president’s in 1260 and some in adjoining Districts will have received
a letter from David Brown outlining the details and asking them to identify
environmental schemes in their area to be entered for an award. |

Stroke Awareness |
This event took place again in
2006, although as far as District 1260 is concerned the ‘national’ day coincided
with our District Conference weekend in Cardiff. However, since the date was
not fixed (unlike Kids Out) many Clubs ran local projects
