Leighton Linslade

On May 1st the Rotary Club of Leighton Linslade held their annual May Day Fayre. The theme of the day was Leighton by the seaside, assisted by donkey rides, fun fairs, a sandcastle competition and special Leighton sticks of rock. Over 40 local charities, clubs and organisations took the opportunity to meet and greet the public and raise much needed funds. The club raised over £6,000 through the event and every comment received back has been full of praise. We also sponsored a stall for the Hearing Dogs for the Blind and they raised almost £200. The picture shows Rotary member and Chairman of South Beds Council Brian Spurr opening the Fayre. Also in attendance are Club President Dave Bowater, MP Andrew Selous, MEP Tom Wise and Town Mayor Mark Freeman.

INVITATION FROM ITV   HEARING DOGS

ITV are looking for people who have done something interesting "Or out of the ordinary". And "people who have triumphed over adversity".

The Centre where dogs are trained for this valuable work was recently visited by Hoddesdon Rotarians. They heard at first hand how dogs perform in the homes of those whose hearing is impaired, potentially saving lives.
If there is a fire, or other cause for alarm, a hearing dog attracts the attention of the person in danger so that help can be summoned.
