LUTON
CLUBS CENTENARY PROJECT
|
|||
|
The four Luton Rotary Clubs - Luton, Luton North,Luton Chiltern, and Luton Someries, have joined together in a major project to celebrate the Centenary of Rotary and to fulfill their Rotary Vision of making a lasting difference to the lives of young persons in Luton. Centrepiece of the Project is a Rotary Youth Trust for Luton, which was launched at a Breakfast Business Meeing held on 5th February 2004. Guests at the Launch included the Mayor of Luton, the Bishop of St. Albans, representatives of all the local Press and Radio stations, and many senior business leaders in the town. All four clubs will be conducting their own fund-raising during the Centenary year towards this central Project. Luton North are leading the first phase with a Giant Balloon Race to capitalise on |

This Centenary Balloon Race will be much, much bigger, with in excess of 20,000 balloons expected to be launched from multiple sites around the town, involving local people and schools as well as Rotarians. Although Luton North are "leading" the Balloon race, because of their previous experience, the event will involve all four clubs and a joint co-ordinating group has been formed | |||

Over
the following months representatives of the four clubs met together
frequently to progress the formation of the Trust and the financial
means to support it, and a local firm of solicitors was appointed to
draw up the legal framework which would govern the workings of the Trust.

On 5th February 2004 the Rotary Youth Trust for Luton was officially launched at a Breakfast Meeting held at the Vauxhall Riverside Suite in Gypsy Lane. The Breakfast was attended by over 150 Rotarians and Guests from local business, commerce, the professions, and representatives of the TV, Radio, and Press, including the Bishop of St Albans and the Mayor of Luton, who heard a powerful presentation by speakers from the four clubs, supported by a PowerPoint slide show presentation. The Trust is supported by the Borough of Luton, the Luton University, local church leaders, and many local business organisations who recognise the potential of the Trust for transforming the lives of local young people. The Rotary
vision in Luton is that the Youth Trust will become a major feature
of Luton life, and will continue to grow over the coming years through
fund raising activities by Rotary, other local organisations and individuals,
by donations from local business, and by individuals supporting the
Trust through bequests in their Wills |

As the Luton centenary Project develops we shall bring you further details via this page. There is one more major plank to the Centenary Project about which we cannot publish details right now, but it is a major exciting initiative which the Luton Clubs say is probably unique within RIBI. Watch this space !!!!!!
