Our District's Achievements in International Service for 2006-07: Many thanks to the 25 out of the 51 Clubs which responded to our survey. The response rate is just under 50%, compared to over 70% last year. Overall, the District's achievements could be considered as 'Fair' compared to last year ... Clubs in the District contributed about £138,000 in 2006-07 for International activities. The average value# of contribution by each Club that responded to the survey is £3,700 [versus £4,800 last year].
# The value here excludes hands on work, time spent by Rotarians and contributions in kind - like shoe boxes or tools for self-reliance etc. On special projects, the value includes any Matching / Rotary Foundation grants. For a summary and analysis, click here to see a set of eight slides OR Click here for downloading the full presentation in PDF format, about 0.4 Mb]. The following is the summary slide:

The October issue covers the story about the Dutch Navy transporting boxes to the hurricane victims in Nicaragua. An account of the tragedy in Peru, experienced by members of the ShelterBox Response team* is also covered. Those who assisted in the distribution of boxes in Peru following the earthquake describe their experience. Coverage is also given to the assistance given in Nepal, Jamaica and North Korea. ShelterBox again thanks everyone for their continuing support. *ShelterBox Response Teams (SRTs) are now deployed regularly in response to Disasters where ShelterBox are called in to assist with aid. These teams assess, respond, distribute, and educate those victims of disasters who are in need of emergency aid. They assess where boxes should be distributed, respond with supplies of boxes, assist with the distribution of the boxes, and finally instruct and educate the victims in the use of the contents of a box. I have strong links with South Africa and know the difficulties that people face out there from first hand - hope you can use these! Rotary Shares and makes a difference, by making things happen. The President of RI, Wilf Wilkinson's agreed priorities are: Literacy, Water Management, Health and Hunger, and Family of Rotary. The District Governor, Brian Doggrell’s view: No preferred projects – clubs to concentrate on their own ideas. Although we have no preferred projects, you may wish to support one of the initiatives arising from Clubs in our own District- such as a minibus for a hospital in S.Africa or Play Pump for Water or Rotary Ophthalmic initiatives. [See list on the left-hand side column, under Major initiatives by Clubs OR under Project Info & Contacts]. The committee members have agreed to take specific responsibility for certain projects in the RIBI Library. If you need any support please contact them.
Wheel Chair project update: As of 25 Apr 07, the Clubs have contributed £11,481 towards a target of £14,000. Come on Rotarians... you can do it! Clubs should send their cheque to: Philippa Eccles, 25 Massie Close, Willen Park, Milton Keynes MK15 9HG. Cheques should be made payable to District 1260 (Foundation), clearly marked for the Wheelchair Project. If cheques can't be sent promptly please contact Roy Lester, the Chairman of the Dist. International Services with the amount the Club wishes to pledge. He may be able to persuade the Treasurer to let us commit against it!
