  • Club case study: Matching grant approved for Great Missenden Rotary Club's project in Tamale (Ghana). Equipment will help women in making sheanut butter. For a story by Gavin Plews and pictures, click here. [23 Feb 2002]

         
                

  • Programme for the joint International/Foundation session on Saturday morning, 9 March 2002,  at the Dist 1260 Conference in Bournemouth has been finalised. It will include presentations on three projects - Newport Pagnell/Kitwe (Zambia) project, and Wolverton's Eshowe (Zululand) project, and Ware area clubs project on Tools for Self-reliance.   • A short update from Les Lee for the February 2002 District Council Meeting. Covers the situation in Congo, appeal for information on special club projects for PR at the RIBI conference in Glasgow, and an invitation for club members to join the District International Services Committee for 2002-03.   • Update on Club Case Study - A World Community Service  project to donate playground equipment for the disabled children in a school near Bombay was completed in January 2002. This is an update on an earlier story about how links were established between Rotary Clubs of Great Missenden and Thane Hills, firstly through Gujarat relief aid and then a project. Appropriately, the chief guest for the handing over ceremony was an UNICEF representative. [12 Jan 2002]

            

  • A comprehensive Newsletter from Les Lee - covering our plans and achievements, communications, update on Gujarat, options to help in Afghanistan, and a resume of what the major charities are doing in Afghanistan. [Jan 2002]

  • One of the perks for the International Service Committee members is a heavily subsidised Xmas dinner hosted by Peter & Sheila Mead at  Cross Keys in Pullox Hill. As a record is a group photo taken by John Lingham-French. [10 Dec 2001]

                        

  • Not to worry - if you missed the half-yearly International Services Workshop held at Tilsworth in Nov 2001. Roy Lester has summarised the highlights - Aylesbury Hundreds Rotary Club's adventure to deliver an ambulance to Belarus and what the "Riders for health" are doing in Africa. [Nov 2001]

  • Club case study - Building on the links with Rotary Club of Thane Hills (near Bombay, India) after the Gujarat earthquake, Rotary Club of Great Missenden has done a World Community Service project. They have helped them with playground equipment for disabled children. If you are travelling in the Bombay area, please let the Great Missenden Club know.   • Club case study - Wolverton with Eshowe Club in Zululand for provision of water supply and sanitation facilities for three schools. They have a novel idea to raise part of £18,000  - by publishing a joke book for only  £2.99 . Could be an ideal Xmas gift!   • Vision Aid Overseas have now made some "free" transport arrangements. The project sheet has been appended with the details. [ 28 Sep 2001] 

  • Club Case Study - involving three countries. Newport Pagnell along with a Rotary Club in Holland ( Ede ) are planning to donate new laboratory equipment for a school for the deaf in Zambia through a local Rotary Club, Kitwe. Click here for a half-page report by Colin Kidby [25 Sep 2001]

  • Millennium project update - remember the "Give it Max" campaign for Hope and Homes for Children during Paul Denton's year as the DG? Well, thanks to all concerned and the Rotary Foundation for doubling the value of our District's contribution of over $39,000. A three-quarter page report by Les Lee [10 Sep 2001

  • Three in one report - Les Lee has published a fairly comprehensive Dist. Intl. Newsletter. It also serves as his report to the Dist. Executives and Team, and to the District Council [9 Sep 2001]

  • Club Case study - Aylesbury Hundreds donating an Ambulance to Belarus [19 Aug 2001]

                      

  • An update on the schools project in Zimbabwe. Letter from there..."The furniture has now been installed in our new library and into some of the classrooms. Both the staff and the children are so proud of their new acquisitions and we have had many "visitors" to the school recently, checking things out!"... And they have seen our website as well.   • A new section covering news/reports from the Inner Wheel Dist 26 Overseas service has been to our site. This may be of interest to Rotarians as well as Inner Wheel members.   • A selection by Les Lee from RIBI's International Service Newsletter for July 2001 covers:  Children of the Andes (details of a speaker), help needed in Gambia (funding for the second phase of a health centre), Ockenden International's work in Northern Uganda to help children many of whom are AIDS orphans, and help for Tristan de Cunha following a Hurricane [Tristan de Cunha is in South Atlantic Ocean, about a third of the way from Cape Town to Falklands!]., Click here for the report.   • An Update on the three Club case study concerning Dr Minnie (see story below): She successfully completed her training and impressed lots of visitors ( potential members!) at a meeting in Brookman's Park Club.   • Clubs case study: Three clubs in Hatfield, Brookmans Park and St Albans Priory quickly offered hosting and transport to the scholar Minnie (Dr.Mrinalini Chathurvedi) for a special three-week training in the UK. She is an ex-air force doctor employed by the Rotary TTK Blood Bank in Bangalore, India. Through direct Rotary action we will have helped to slow down the spread of the HIV virus.
