Typhoon and Flooding in Taiwan
 - in the country of our GSE partners for 2001-2

Note from Les Lee, District 1260 International Committee Chairman
30 Aug 2001

Rotarians in this District may be interested in this particular disaster as it is in Taiwan, which will be the country with which our GSE teams will be exchanging this year.

Typhoon Tau-chi (Toraji?) has destroyed numerous villages and left nearly one hundred people dead following storms on the 30th July 2001. Hundreds more have been injured, missing, or left without homes. Total damages have been estimated at more than US$300 million.

The Governor of District 3460 is seeking international assistance to replace numerous bridges and schools that were destroyed by the floodwaters Whilst I have details of how donations can be sent direct, in view of our intended relationship with Taiwan later in the year I have agreed with District Governor Mike Gardner that any club wishing to contribute could do this through district and we could make one payment as a district.

Please send any contributions to Les Lee  at 79 Chartridge Lane, Chesham, Bucks, HP5 2RG

Cheques made payable to "Rotary District 1260"

Update on 5 Sep 2001:

I AM PLEASED TO REPORT THAT THE FIRST DONATION HAS BEEN RECEIVED FROM STEVENAGE GRANGE
