EXAMPLES OF SCHEMES USED TO GOOD EFFECT

If your Club has been carrying out recycling schemes with an International theme you might like to pass on the details to Rtn Colin Kidby. 58 Annesley Rd, Newport Pagnell, MK16 0BG  Email colin.kidby@newpag.freeserve.co.uk    He will be pleased to add them to the list of examples.

The following details are of schemes that have been used by some Clubs in our District

TOOLS FOR SELF RELIANCE.

Five Clubs, AMWELL, HERTFORD, HERTFORD SHIRES, HODDESDON, WARE. Did a joint major collection scheme for this organisation a couple of years ago. They had arranged central collection points in Hertford, Hoddesdon and Ware town centres for two successive Saturdays. They advise that it is important, of course, to use a venue where people go on a regular basis. Tescos, & Do it All were some of the sites they used.  They then handed out their own leaflets advertising the collection days on the two Saturdays prior to this in the town centres etc, about 8/10000 were issued between the venues. The end result was very good.

NEWPORT PAGNELL has been collecting for some years. They advertise from time to time in the four parish magazines that cover their area, giving contact names and phone numbers of the local Rotarian who will be pleased to receive any hand tools. Also they have given each club member 30/40 letters about collecting old hand tools, which are then distributed, to houses in the vicinity of each member. Each letter is “personalised” to show that the contact Rotarian is in that neighbourhood. Both of these approaches have proved satisfactory.

MOBILE PHONES. If carrying out a major collecting project for Tools, it is easy to add Mobile Phones to the list of items required.

VISION AID OVERSEAS.

The five Clubs mentioned above also included collection of unwanted spectacles in their project.

NEWPORT PAGNELL have been collecting old spectacles for well over 20 years; so far in excess of 50,000 pairs have been dealt with. They have collecting boxes, suitable worded and with the Rotary Logo, in local Health Centres, Doctors surgeries, Opticians, and some Charity Shops. This is a good way to support the scheme and the collecting points were fairly easy to arrange. They have one member who is the overall liaison person. He collects them from the various points, monthly, and delivers them to the optician who is the nominated receiving agent for the Charity.
