Conference 2003 Report, held at Cardiff

District 1260 International World Community Service

Report by Les Lee, March 2003

As you know the RIBI Presidents preferred project is Wateraid. As a result, two of the fun loving district committee members - Roy Lester and David Barker - became Tap and Loo for the Saturday Session and at Coffee collected £240.

At the following morning's group session, three different aspects of International World Community Service were covered as follows:

  •  Leslie Robertson who spoke on the Gujarat project but with an emphasis on World Community Service projects and how club to club projects can be productive and exciting.

Anyone wishing to go to Gujarat in  Jan/Feb 2004 to see the results for yourself contact Leslie Robertson.

  • There was a change of emphasis to "hands on activities" when George Rivas of Gt Missenden spoke about how they manage to fill 2000 shoe boxes in a year. George produced a comprehensive handout of draft letters and documents they use. Further information is on this website.

  • Finally, Chris Bradburn of Hitchin Club gave an insight into a RIBI Library Project and NGO " Riders for Health" with information on how they will travel by Motorbikes visiting clubs in the UK that share the same name as those overseas. Example: Halifax (=Canada). Further information is on this website.

The results for 2002 / 2003 club achievements are not available yet but 2001 / 2002 was a very successful year. Results based on the information given by clubs was presented in detail. Total for the year amounted to over £160,000 from clubs international World Community Service activities. The total for all 29 districts in RIBI was over £5 million.
