Clubs in District help Mozambique

District 1260 International World Community Service

Report by Les Lee, 31 Mar 2003

You may recall my request for items that could be taken to Mozambique and the wonderful response from a number of clubs in this district. The response was so good that I lost count of the clubs that made a contribution.

However the items were taken and I give below a message from one of the leaders. Please pass this message to members of your club. It is great that you have made such a difference.

Thank You.

Les Lee

Dear Les

Trip to Mozambique

I have just returned from a wonderful three-week stay at Vila Maninga and I wanted to let you know how wonderfully useful all the items that you so kindly collected for us were.  I took out 40Kg and Elizabeth managed to get on with 60Kg.

We taught some of the ladies how to knit and embroider.  They were very willing pupils and very little in the way of household chores was done while we were there, as they were so keen to get back to their knitting and sewing.

I hope to have some photographs to send you soon.  Vila Maninga is such a happy friendly place, an oasis in the middle of the African bush. It has a Primary School, is instructing Bible College students and wives, who mostly come from remote rural areas and providing a safe haven for the orphans who are cared for in the two family units. Pastor & Mrs de Jaeger oversee this special place and should be justly proud of what they have achieved.  They were so grateful to receive all your donations. Juanita de Jaeger assures me that the remainder will be put to good use in the near future.  She is keen to set up small community centres in the rural areas where the ladies can do craft work, which may be a means of making a small income in the future. Please do pass on our thanks to everyone from the Rotary Club who donated items.

With kind regards

Chris
