TWINNING; WATFORD & THE
LANGLEYS with NANCY MAJORELLE
29 June 2002
"Congratulations to Watford and the Langleys for Twinning with Nancy Majorelle" - Best Wishes from the District International Service Committee
The Watford & The Langleys club is now twinned with Nancy Majorelle in France. Twinning follows a couple of previous club visits and a successful joint project to buy a mini-bus for a Rumanian orphanage (delivered last month). Like Watford & The Langleys, the Majorelle club was founded about five years ago as the first mixed club in its area. Majorelle now have thirty two members. The two clubs look forward to working together on future projects and enjoying many social visits.
Nancy is a very interesting town. At its centre is a fine sixteenth century square built by Stanislas I, last of the great Dukes of Lorraine. It was also a centre for the Art Nouveaux movement in France and boasts many beautiful Art Nouveaux buildings. Nancy's museums are full of exquisite examples of glass, ceramics and furniture of the period. The Nancy club is named after Louis Majorelle who was a leading Art Nouveaux furniture maker.
